Kick starting a new project!
11-March-2024
When it came to my crafting imagination, there was a few ingredients which helped me to tap into my creative flow.
First and foremost it was important to let go of any preconceived notions and limitations which I placed upon myself. The beauty of my imagination is that I believe that everything is possible, so I gave myself permission to dream by not being afraid I would fail.
I have realised that creativity is not about perfection, it’s about exploring and pushing yourself to new limits and not being afraid of fail along the way. To accept failure is an opportunity to learn to grow.
Crafting my imagination has been an ongoing process and one which has taken time and effort. It’s about giving myself time to think, trying out new things, keeping a notebook handy and embracing failure to begin tapping into my creative flow, and craft imagination in ways which I never thought possible. What I didn’t realise at the time, but I do now, is "sky's the limit when it comes to creativity!"
Creativity is a powerful thing. It allows for things that aren't there. It has helped me to see things in ways that others don't. Creative crafting has been a great way for me to relax and de-stress and hugely therapeutic. To begin, I told myself “Why not start with something simple." Two, be open minded and don't be afraid to try new materials that tickle your fancy.
Consider, recycled materials - if you have any old clothes, blankets, furniture that is no longer needed, don't throw it away. Think about how you can use it in your next project and the impact on the environment.
Get organised - so keeping all your necessary supplies close by so that I didn’t have to run off to the shops at the last minute.
Keep your crafting space tidy - Once I started to get into crafting more regularly I found keeping my work space distraction free enabled me to focus on what I was doing and it helped to produce substantially higher.
Even when I first started out with small projects, the thought was impossible, it was learning about believing in yourself. Every accomplishment, I make represents another step forward towards where I want to be personally and successfully.
When I started thinking about kicking starting a new idea, I thought about something which is cosey and keeps us warm. I decided on socks for friends and family.
Firstly, as with any new idea, I always make sure that the little details count, so putting designs and colours together was paramount and thinking intuitively about the material, colour and designs which work well together before deciding on the investment.
Secondly, business has taught me to be curious about the history which surrounds an idea.
Thirdly, increasing the amount of freedom, I get from an idea is hugely important to me. After all, for once in my life, the ideas are about me, so generating and vetting ideas which would lead into action, and not just pushing forward when my heart was not into something.
Putting your heart into something is about not wanting to fail. It’s being confident and open to learning which was a great starting place to launch my sock idea. Therefore, before starting, I did my groundwork to turn and idea into fruition before venturing into production.
I began to think about just how much we take socks and slippers for granted in keeping our feet warm. Also highlighting the history and cultural significance of different socks. Owning different socks is a form of expression and to “nock someone's socks off” is to delight them, so socks seemed to be the perfect gift idea for family and friends.
